Afghan widows build unique community on Kabul hill

Kabul, Afghanistan – July 20: Afghan women have formed a unique community on top of a hill in Kabul, Afghanistan, on July 20, 2015. The hill is known as ‘’Women’s Hill,” the community of widows is breaking taboos in a country dominated by men — working for a living, and even building their own houses. Their community raises questions about how Afghanistan treats an estimated 2 million women who have been made widows by more than 30 years of war. (Haroon Sabawoon and Frud Bezhan, RFE/RL)
